I can see him rolling down the hill in the back yard this spring. Oh, boy.
At least there's woven wire at the bottom and not barbed;-)
Welcome to my blog! This spot is for me to write things down to remember later on, ask questions of others and share information I've gathered both on a technical level and a personal level. Thanks for stopping by and please feel free to post a comment.

Garret and his train
Teeny playing with his train (quietly:-) on a Saturday morning. Notice how
he's figured out how to train cars from his other train onto his wooden one
the Amish made? Pretty smart for a 22 month old!

Must remember to try to use this article to build a Mac for my home lab...

Scripts for the Configuration Manager 2007 Management Pack
We're trying to set up NetCool at work to monitor our Configuration Manager 2007 hierarchy. We've already got a few monitors but wanted to compare the wheel we're re-inventing to the one that already exists. I found the article below that describes the default monitors in the OpsMgr 2007 Management Pack. Pretty cool!

Back at the fairgrounds this morning for another full day. First the rabbit show, then working the Pork booth from 3-7 and then finally a date night at the tractor pull!

TurboLister
Working with Ebay's TurboLister this afternoon to try to determine if it will meet my needs for creating auctions in a timely fashion for my neighbor's harness and mower business. It looks like they've made some significant improvements over the years although I still don't see how I can easily capture pictures of the items without taking them, downloading them to my computer and then inserting them into the listing.
What I'd like to be able to do is take picture 1-3 while I'm creating the listing for item number 1. That way I don't have to go through all those steps.
Oh well, I guess I'll have to try it to see how good "free" is:-)

PowerPoint in French
I'm enjoying the view of a vendor's WebEx'd desktop in French. How cool is that.

Why HughesNet Sucks
So I'm writing this post on my Blogger Buddy while VPN'd into work and waiting on the RDP client to refresh my screen. I'm on the lowest tier package and it still costs $69.95/mo. It's unbelievably slow and practically useless this day and age. It's amazing that we still have no other viable option for broadband at home.
Yes, I would move if I could find another place to live where the land was free (well, cheap anyway).
Anyone else struggling with HughesNet? Anyone actually like it?

End-User Performance Monitoring
In 2000, I tried to drive the purchase of an end-user performance monitoring product for both our desktop and Citrix environment. I struggled to drive this (a. due to my inexpierence and b. the greater need for a standardized desktop) and ultimately decided that there was no real need for end-user performance monitoring of a truly optimized desktop.
I think I might be changing my mind however. What a product like SERDEN Interact shows us is in the optimized desktop is where the problem is not. On the ideal desktop it's going to point out problems elsewhere but not on the desktop itself.
What do you think?

Got to get better about updating this...
I've fallen off the band-wagon the last couple of months and need to get back to it. Just sitting here watching a demo on measuring the performance of Citrix from the end users perspective.

Taco Bell

It's not every day you see a mint Ferrari 308 GTSi in a Taco Bell parking lot at 10pm on a Wednesday night. Must have spent $25k on the car and now has only Taco Bell to take his girl.
I told my buddies I was with that if I had been that guy, I would have asked my girlfriend to sit on the curb for a minute while I got in and drove away. Would have been much easier then enduring the months or years of her feeling inferior to my car.
I did watch him wipe the car down with the softest towel I've ever seen before he let her get in. Too funny. I wish the camera on my BlackBerry didn't suck so bad. Sorry about that.

Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7!
Here's the link to the RSAT tools for Windows 7 RC:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/D/4/AD4D3903-E06D-456D-AED4-D53895D2C1A9/Windows6.1-KB958830-x64.msu
Lot's of important stuff here. I wanted the starter GPO's for Windows 7 since I'm seeing some strange behaviors running our current corporate policy. I will also need GPMC and this is the only place to get it. I thought the link was hard to find so I figured I'd post it here!

Using the new Easy Transfer...
Easy Transfer actually works now! How cool is that. In the past, it was very difficult to get Easy Transfer to actually both save from your down-level operating system and restore to the current version of Windows. Even if you could get it to be successful, it was rare that it actually moved this you wanted. I just performed the tranfer on my Windows 7 computer while I typed this and it finished moving about 640MB worth of stuff in about 5 minutes from a network share. Got to go see if it really put things where it's supposed to be!
Weird Prompt on Windows 7
So I get this weird prompt on Windows 7 every time I try to access a network resource. It's a prompt titled "Enter Network Password" and the error at the bottom says: "The system detected a possible attempt to compromise security. Please ensure that you can contact the server that authenticated you."
This error (and the long delay accessing the network resource) remind me of a similar issue in the past (like with Windows XP) but I'm still searching my memory banks...
